MEIXIN TOWER - APEX

EXISTING TOWER

Located on the historically significant banks of the Suzhou River, a site entrenched in industrial heritage and urban recollections, our first prize-winning entry in the internationally invited competition for Shenergy Group has given rise to the pioneering Meixin Tower. This architectural endeavour redefines urban living by planning to convert existing abandoned office space to serviced apartments with mixed-use commercial spaces. With its carefully designed public space, it emerges as a prominent symbol of contemporary living and ingenuity in the Huangpu District.

The regenerative development sets a new urban benchmark by encompassing a diversified 27,395 square meters mixed-use program, incorporating commercial spaces, serviced apartments, and offices; it is elaborately designed to address the requisites of China's financial hub, comprehensively considering all facets of urban life. This tower, spanning a construction area of 2843 square meters, featuring 23 above-grade floors and two below, is poised to redefine the urban landscape of Shanghai.

The proposal introduces an innovative façade system that integrates an exoskeleton structure and curtain wall through an accurately controlled detailed computer-modelling process. This architectural solution enhances the building's visual appeal and structural integrity by leveraging advanced structural possibilities. The new façade design optimises energy conservation during Shanghai's humid and hot summer with high-level thermal insulation performance, as shown by its high efficiency glazing system, HVAC, and smart building management systems. The procurement process of building materials emphasises the full life cycle building performance through evaluation and assessment to reduce embodied carbon and achieve the highest standard of China's Green Building Evaluation Standard.

Situated within the historical preservation area along the Suzhou River, the podium will integrate contemporary design while honouring the area's abundant legacy of Neo-classical architecture within its surrounding urban milieu. The podium's arches pay homage to the historic environs and cultivate a favoured public realm for the users, thus preserving the area's rich heritage.

The tower represents more than just a residential or commercial space; it offers a comprehensive experiential setting. By reimagining the tower apex as a public realm integrated with a viewing gallery, a high-end dining establishment, and an executive club, Meixin has created an exceptional 360-degree cityscape. This distinct feature is strategically designed to attract more visitors from the entire city of Shanghai.
